WCRF/AICR report, Policy and Action for Cancer Prevention

Learn more about the new WCRF/AICR report, Policy and Action for Cancer Prevention, which was launched at an international press briefing in London at 10 a.m. GMT (5 a.m. US Eastern Time), and presented to US lawmakers at a Congressional Briefing at 10 a.m. US Eastern Time, on February 26th, 2009.

The recommendations in the WCRF/AICR report Policy and Action for Cancer Prevention have been agreed upon by a panel of 23 world-renowned experts. This new policy report follows on from the conclusions of the 2007 WCRF/AICR Expert Report,Food, Nutrition, Physical Activity and the Prevention of Cancer: A Global Perspective. WCRF and AICR asked the expert panel behind that landmark report – and its 10 Recommendations for CancerPrevention – to lend their in-depth understanding of the science of cancer prevention to the developmentof this policy report. They were joined in that task by leading policy experts specializing in thefields of physical activity, economics, and the psychology of health behaviors.Evidence for the policy report came partly from two systematic literature reviews that investigatedtwo specific questions: 1. What factors shape the patterns of behavior that affect cancer risk (namelydiet, physical activity and body fatness)? and 2. Around the world, what effects have specific interventions had on those patterns of behavior? All of this evidence was summarized and the opportunities for action evaluated.
