General: Founded over 30 years ago, the Block Center is one of the world’s leading integrative cancer treatment facilities. Keith Block, MD, and Penny Block, PhD, developed this clinic and its programs, which are detailed in Dr. Keith Block’s 2009 book, Life Over Cancer. An outpatient clinic treating the entire range of cancers, the Center’s innovative approach systematically combines the best of conventional cancer treatments with research-based complementary interventions such as therapeutic diet, selective supplementation, stress-care strategies, and prescriptive exercise programs.
Services: Advanced laboratory and molecular testing, personalized nutrition and nutraceutical counseling, systematic mind-body training, prescriptive exercise instruction, innovative chemotherapy administration including chronomodulated and metronomic infusion, targeted molecular treatments, off-label and experimental therapies and immunotherapies.
Interests: Research in specific lifestyle factors and laboratory and tissue assessments are critical to the Center’s approach to optimizing cancer treatment. Clinical emphasis is placed on correcting adverse biochemical and molecular disruptions unique to each patient. Additional research includes innovating methods for optimizing circadian health and investigating better methods for administering chemotherapy such as time-sensitive infusions. The goal is to reduce toxicity and side-effects, improve treatment response, and boost overall survival.
The Center trains medical, dietetic and pharmacy students in both academic and clinical settings through the University of Illinois at Chicago, and houses a full time research staff that participates in pharmaceutical, nutraceutical and integrative oncology studies.
